Complete rainbow hat




 

0-3 months

You will need 7 colours of dk yarn-

Bright’s - violet, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.

Or

pastels - purple, violet, pale blue, pale green, pale yellow, dark pink, and pale pink.

Hat

Cast on 80 stitches using 3.5mm needles in purple

Row 1: k1, p1, repeat until end of row

Repeat until you have 8 rows of rib.

Change to 4mm needles, violet yarn, and stocking stitch

Knit 8 rows with violet

Change to blue or pale blue and knit 8 rows

Change to green or pale green and knit 7 rows

Change to yellow or pale yellow and knit 8 rows

Change to orange or dark pink, knit 3 rows

 

Decrease

Row 1: Still in orange or dark pink – k4, k2tog, repeat until the end of the row.

Row 2: purl

Row 3: knit

Row 4: purl

Row 5: Change to red or pale pink- k3, k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 6: Purl

Row 7: k2, k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 8: purl

Row 9: k1, k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 10: purl

Row 11: k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 12: purl

Row 13: k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Cut of length of yarn and draw through remaining stitches, pull tight and sew down seam.

 

Newborn

You will need 7 colours of dk yarn-

Bright’s - violet, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.

Or

pastels - purple, violet, pale blue, pale green, pale yellow, dark pink, and light pink.

Cast on 70 stitches using 3.5mm needles in purple

Row 1: k1, p1, repeat until end of row

Repeat until you have 6 rows of rib.

Change to 4mm needles, violet yarn, and stocking stitch

Knit 7 rows with violet

Change to blue or pale blue and knit 7 rows

Change to green or pale green and knit 6 rows

Change to yellow or pale yellow and knit 7 rows

Change to orange or dark pink, knit 3 rows

 

Decrease

Row 1: Still in orange or dark pink – k4, k2tog, repeat until the end of the row.

Row 2: purl

Row 3: knit

Row 4: purl

Row 5: Change to red or pale pink- k3, k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 6: Purl

Row 7: k2, k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 8: purl

Row 9: k1, k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 10: purl

Row 11: k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Row 12: purl

Row 13: k2tog repeat until the end of the row

Cut of length of yarn and draw through remaining stitches, pull tight and sew down seam.
