Small preemie

Cast on 40st using 4mm needles and Dk yarn, if you are a loose knitter then use 3.5mm needles for the hat

Takes 4grams of dk yarn and measures 3.5inches wide and 3inches from top to bottom

Rows 1-3: knit

Row 4: *k5, p5 repeat from * until the end of the row

Row 5: knit

Row 6: *p5, k5, repeat from * until the end of the row

Rows 7-11: knit

Change to stocking stitch and knit until the hat measures 2inches from the beginning.

Decrease:

Row 1: *k4, k2tog, repeat from * until last 4st, k4

Row 2 and alternative rows: Purl

Row 3: *k3, k2tog, repeat from * until last 4st, k4

Row 5: *k2, k2tog, repeat from * until end of the row

Row 7: *k1, k2tog repeat from * until end of the row

Row 9: *k2tog repeat from * across the row  

Leaving a long tail thread through the remaining stitches and sew down the seam.

 

Medium preemie

Cast on 50st using 4mm needles and Dk yarn, if you are a loose knitter then use 3.5mm needles for the hat

Takes 7 grams of dk yarn, measures 4.5inches wide and 4inches from top to bottom

Rows 1-3: knit

Row 4: *k5, p5 repeat from * until the end of the row

Row 5: knit

Row 6: *p5, k5, repeat from * until the end of the row

Row 7: knit

Repeats rows 4-7 once more

Rows 12-15: knit

Change to stocking stitch and 4mm needles and knit until the hat measures 3inches from the beginning.

Decrease:

Row 1: *k4, k2tog, repeat from * until last 2st, k2

Row 2 and alternative rows: Purl

Row 3: *k3, k2tog, repeat from * until last 2st, k2

Row 5: *k2, k2tog, repeat from * until last 2st, k2

Row 7: *k1, k2tog repeat from * until last 2st, k2

Cast on 60st using 4mm needles and Dk yarn, if you are a loose knitter then use 3.5mm needles for the hat

Takes 15grams of dk yarn, measures 5 inches wide and 5.5inches from top to bottom

Rows 1-5: knit

Row 6: *k5, p5 repeat from * until the end of the row

Row 7: knit

Row 8: *p5, k5, repeat from *  until the end of the row

Row 9: knit

Repeats rows 6-9 twice more

Rows 18-21: knit

Change to stocking stitch until the hat measures 4 inches from the beginning.

Decrease:

Row 1: *k5, k2tog, repeat from * until last 4 st, k4

Row 2 and alternative rows: purl

Row 3: *k4, k2tog, repeat from * until last 4st, k4
