Row 1: With white yarn, MR, ch2 (counts as tr),11tr in MR, sl st to ch2 (12 sts)

Row 2: ch2 (counts as tr), tr in same st, 2 tr in each st around, sl st to ch2 (24 sts)

Row 3: ch 2 (counts as tr), dc in same st, tr, *2 tr, tr*, cont inc around, sl st to ch 2 (36 sts)

Row 4: ch2 (counts as tr), tr in same st, tr in next 2 sts,*2dc, tr in next 2 sts*, cont inc around, sl st to ch 2 (48 sts)

Rows 5-11: ch2 (counts as tr), tr in same st, tr in next 46sts, sl st to ch2 (48 sts)

Row 12: *FPtr, BPtr*, cont around, sl st to first tr, tie off, and weave in ends (48 sts)

With the required coloured  wool, MR, ch 3, (2 tr, 3 htr, tr, 3 htr, 2 tr) in MR (pull mostly closed), ch 3, sl st in MR (pull tightly closed), tie off, leaving long tail to sew hearts securely and evenly around the bottom of the hat.
