Preemie- 116 stitches with 4mm needles and dk yarn 20x27 inches 175grams

Baby – 158 stitches using 4mm needles and dk yarn 30x 32 inches 270grams 

Cot – 200 stitches using 4mm needles and dk yarn 38x44inches 500grams 

Rows 1-21: knit

Rows 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 & 32: k10, * p5, k2 repeat from * until last 15 stitches, p5, k10

Row 23 and all alternative rows: knit

Rows: 34, 36 & 38: k10, *p5, k9 repeat from * until last 22 stitches, p5, k17

Rows 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 & 50: k10, *p5, k2 repeat from * until last 15 stitches, p5, k10

Rows 52, 54 & 56: k17, p5, *k9, p5 repeat from * until last 10 stitches, k10

Repeat rows 21-56 x 3 more times for preemie

Cable ear warmer

 

Cable Ear warmer



 

Using 7mm needles and chunky yarn cast on 15 stitches for Adult and child, 13 stitches for toddler and baby. For extra wide size cast on 19 stitches and add 2 extra knit stitches either side of the pattern.

Stitch in brackets is for toddler and baby sizes.

Row 1- knit

Row 2- k3 (k2), p9, k3 (k2)

Row 3- k3 (k2), slip 3 stitches onto a cable needle and hold in front of work, k3, k3 from cable needle, k6 (k5)

Row 4- k3 (k2), p9, k3 (k2)

Row 5- knit

Row 6 – k3 (k2), p9, k3 (k2)

Row 7- k6 (k5), slip 3 stitches onto cable needle and hold back of work, k3, k3 from cable needle, k3 (k2)

 Row 8 – k3 (k2), p9, k3 (k2)

Repeat 8 rows until size required, sizing suggestion Adult - 19 inches,

                                               Child – 18 inches,

                                               Toddler – 17inches,

                                               Baby – 14-16 inches

Bunny hat

 

Bunny hat



Med preemie

Cast on 51 stitches using 3.5mm needles and dk yarn

Rows 1-5: rib stitch

Change to 4mm needles

Continue in stocking stitch until the hat measures 3 inches from cast on.

Decrease:  

Row 1: k3, k2tog, repeat until end of row.

Row 2: purl

Row 3: k2, knit 2 together, repeat until end of row. 

Row 4: purl 

Row 5: k1, k2 tog, repeat until end of row. 

Row 6: purl. 

Row 7: knit 2 tog, repeat until end of row. 

Cut length of yarn leaving a tail of yarn for sewing 

Using a tapestry needle thread through the remaining stitches, draw them together and sew up seam, using the tails of yarn into the work.

Outer Ears (make 2):

cast on 12 stitches using the white or grey yarn and 4mm needles. Leave a long tail to stitch the ears to the hat.

K2tog – knit 2 stitches together

Rows 1-14: stocking stitch starting with knit row

Row 15: k1, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k1

Row 16: purl all stitches

Row 17: k1, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k1

Row 18: purl all stitches

Inner ears (make 2)

cast on 10 stitches using the pink or white yarn and 4mm needles. Leave a long tail to stitch the inner ears to the outer ears.

Rows 1-14: stocking stitch, starting with knit row

Row 15: k1, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k1

Row 16: purl

Row 17: k1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k1

Row 18: purl 

Row 19: k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1

Row 20: purl

Row 21: k2tog, k2tog

Row 22: p2tog Cut yarn, pull through remaining stitch to close, weave in that end.

To assemble the ears: put the ears together with the wrong side facing inwards. Use the long cast-on tail from the white inner ear to stitch the inner ear to the outer ear. Be careful to only catch the purl loops on the outer ear so your stitches don’t show through to the other side.




Attach the ears - Pinch one assembled ear at its base and use the grey or white main cast-on tail to make one stitch so it holds its shape. Then stitch the ear to the top of the hat. Repeat with the other ear.


Optional bow

Cast on 12 stitches with dk yarn and 4mm needles

Row 1: k1, p1 repeat until end of row

Row 2: p1, k1 repeat until end of row

Repeat these 2 rows until it measures 2.5 inches.

Cast off and weave in the ends. Wrap some yarn around the middle tightly to create the bow. Sew firmly on top of the hat.





Large preemie

 

Cast on 61 stitches using 3.5mm needles and dk yarn in white or grey

Row 1: k1, p1, repeat until last stitch, k1

Row 2: p1, k1 repeat until last stitch, p1

Repeat these 2 rows for 6 rows

Change to 4mm needles

Continue in stocking stitch starting with a knit row until the hat measures 4 inches from cast on.

K2tog= knit 2 stitches together

 Decrease:  

Row 1: *k3, k2tog, repeat from * until last stitch, k1

Row 2: purl

Row 3: *k2, k2tog, repeat from * until last stitch, k1

Row 4: purl 

Row 5: *k1, k2 tog repeat from * until last stitch, k1
