Traffic light hats
You will
need:
3.5mm needles
4mm needles
yarn amount listed on each size
Abbreviations
k- knit
p-purl
Newborn
Cast on 70 stitches using 3.5mm needles in red, orange or green
Row 1: k1, p1, repeat until end of row
Repeat until you have 10 rows of rib.
Change to stocking stitch and
4mm needles
Stocking stitch until it measures 5 inches from the beginning.
Decrease:
Row 1: k3, k2tog, repeat until end of row.
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k2, knit 2 together, repeat until end of row.
Row 4: purl
Row 5: k1, k2 tog, repeat until end of row.
Row 6: purl.
Row 7: knit 2 tog, repeat until end of row.
Cut length of yarn leaving a tail of yarn for sewing
Using a tapestry needle thread through the remaining stitches, draw them
together and sew up seam, using the tails of yarn into the work.
Large preemie
Using DK yarn and 3.5mm needles cast on 60sts in red, orange or green
Row 1: k1, p1, k1, p1 continue to end of row.
Repeat until you have got 8 rows of rib.
Change to stocking stitch and
4mm needles
Stocking stitch until it measures 4inches from the beginning.
Row 1: k3, k2tog, repeat until end of
row.
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k2, knit 2 together, repeat
until end of row.
Row 4: purl
Row 5: k1, k2 tog, repeat until end of
row.
Row 6: purl.
Row 7: knit 2 tog, repeat until end of
row.
Cut length of yarn leaving a tail of
yarn for sewing

preemie
Using DK yarn and 3.5mm needles cast on 50sts in red, orange or green
Row 1: k1, p1, k1, p1 continue to end of row.

Change to stocking stitch and
4mm needles
Stocking stitch until it measures 3inches from the beginning.
Decrease:
Row 1: k3, k2tog, repeat until end of row.
Row 2: purl
Row 3: k2, knit 2 together, repeat until end of row.
Row 4: purl
Row 5: k1, k2 tog, repeat until end of row.
Row 6: purl.
Row 7: knit 2 tog, repeat until end of row.
