Elf hat pattern


Elf hats 



Newborn

Cast on 70 stitches using 3.5mm and green dk yarn

Row 1: k1, p1, k1, p1, repeat until end of the row.

Repeat row one for 10 rows of rib.


Row 11: knit

Row 12: purl

Add the white yarn, don’t cut off red.

Row 13: knit

Row 14: purl

Repeat these rows until the hat measures 5 inches from the start. Alternate the red and white every 2 rows. Loosely bring up the yarn the side as you go.

Shaping the top- continue in the stripes

Row 1: k4, k2tog, repeat until end of the row.

Row 2: purl
Row 3: k3, k2tog repeat until end of the row

Row 4: purl

Row 5: k2, k2tog repeat until end of the row

Row 6: purl

Row 7: k1, k2tog repeat until end of row

Row 8: purl

Row 9: k2tog across the row




Large preemie

Cast on 60stitches using 3.5mm needles and green yarn

Row 1: k1, p1, until end of the row

Repeat this until you have 8 rows of rib.

Change to red and 4mm needles

Row 9: knit

Row 10: purl

Add the white yarn, don’t cut off red.

Row 11: knit

Row 12: purl

Repeat these rows until the hat measures 4 inches from the start. Alternate the red and white every 2 rows. Loosely bring up the yarn the side as you go.

Shaping the top- continue in the stripes

Row 1: k3, k2tog repeat until end of the row

Row 2: purl

Row 3: k2, k2tog repeat until end of the row

Row 4: purl

Row 5: k1, k2tog repeat until end of row

Row 6: purl

Row 7: k2tog across the row

Cut off a long tail and thread through remaining stitches, pull tight and sew down seam.



Medium preemie



Cast on 50 stitches with 3.5mm needles and green yarn.

Row 1: k1, p1, repeat until end of row

Repeat row 1 for 6 rows of rib

Change to red and 4mm needles

Row 7: knit

Row 8: purl

Add the white yarn, don’t cut off red.

Row 9: knit

Row 10: purl

Repeat these rows until the hat measures 3 inches from the start. Alternate the red and white every 2 rows. Loosely bring up the yarn the side as you go.
