Twisted rib ear warmer

 

Twisted rib ear warmer




 

 

Lovely ear warmer pattern that is stretchy and comfortable to wear. Due to the stretch, I would advise to measure your head and adjust length accordingly.

You will need: 7mm needles, chunky yarn, cable needle, tapestry needle

Cast on using 7mm needles and chunky yarn. (If you are a loose knitter, then reduce your needle size to a 6mm.)

              12 stitches for baby 20grams

              14 stitches for toddler 30grams

              16 stitches for child 48grams

              20 stitches for adult 58grams 

              24 stitches for extra wide adult 65 grams


Increase stitches to make wider, keep number of stitches an even amount. I knitted the above ear warmers using paintbox simply chunky yarn, you can use any chunky yarn you like.

Row 1: *k1, p1 repeat from * across row

Repeat this row until it measures

7-8 inches for baby

8.5 inches for toddler

9 inches for child

 9.5 inches for adult

Next row: slip the first half of stitches onto your cable needle, 6st for baby, 7st for toddler, 8st for child, 10st for adult or 12 for adult wide band. Bring these stitches in front, work the next 6st, 7st, 8st, 10st or 12st) *k1, p1 repeat from * across stitches. Work stitches from cable needle, k1, *p1, k1 repeat from * until end of row. Toddler size start with p1, k1 until end of row.

Row 2 for baby, child and adults: *k1, p1 repeat from * until end of row

Row 2 for toddler: *p1, k1, repeat from * until the end of the row

Repeat this row until the ear warmer measures from cast on edge

14-16 inches for baby

17 inches for toddler

18 inches for child

20inches for adult

Cast off loosely leaving a long tail for sewing. Using tail sew the ends together.

You will need:

4mm needles

110grams preemie, 300grams baby and 400grams for cot Of Dk yarn

Yarn needle

 

Abbreviations:

k- knit

p- purl

measures when completed- preemie: 22x22inches

                                                  Baby: 31x31inches

                                                  Cot: 40x40inches

Cast on 109 stitches for preemie, 157 stitches for baby and 205 stitches for cot blanket.

Rows 1-21: knit

Row 22: k11, p1, k1, *p3, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1 repeat from * until last 16st, p3, k1, p1, k11

Row 23 and alternative rows: knit

Row 24: k10, p1, k1, *p5, k1, p1, k1 repeat from * until last 17st, p5, k1, p1, k10

Row 26: k11, p3, *k1, p3, k1, p3 repeat from * until last 15st, k1, p3, k11

Row 28: k10, p3, k3, *p5, k3 repeat from * until last 13st, p3, k10

Row 30: k10, p2, k5, *p3, k5 repeat from * until last 12st, p2, k10

Row 32: k10, p3, k3, *p5, k3 repeat from * until last 13st, p3, k10

Row 34: k11, p3, *k1, p3, k1, p3 repeat from * until last 15st, k1, p3, k11

You will need: 7mm needles, chunky yarn, stitch holder x 3, tapestry needle

Cast on using 7mm needles and chunky yarn. (If you are a loose knitter, then reduce your needle size to a 6mm.)

              9 stitches for baby/toddler 14-20grams

              15 stitches for child 33grams

              21 stitches for adult 50grams 

              27 stitches for extra wide adult 65grams

 

I knitted the above ear warmers using paintbox simply chunky yarn, you can use any chunky yarn you like.

Row 1: *k1, p1 repeat from * until end of row

Row 2: *p1, k1 repeat from * until end of row

Repeat these rows until it measures

2.5-3.5 inches for baby/toddler

4.5 inches for child

6 inches for teen, small adult

7 inches for adult, extra wide adult

Next row:

Baby/toddler: k1, p1, k1, Place a stitch holder through the remaining 6 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the 3 stitches for baby-7inches, toddler-8 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the next 3 stitches, rib stitch these stitches for. baby-7inches, toddler-8 inches. Repeat this step for the last 3 stitches.

Child: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, Place a stitch holder through the remaining 10 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the 5 stitches for 9 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the next 5 stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 9 inches. cut yarn leaving a tail and add these to second stitch holder. Repeat this step for the last 5 stitches.

Teen/ small adult/ Adult: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, Place a stitch holder through the remaining 14 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the 7 stitches for 10 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the next 7 stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 10 inches. Repeat the last step for the last 7 stitches. With extra wide adult, rib sections by 9 stitches.

Extra wide adult: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1 Place a stitch holder through the remaining 18 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the 9 stitches for 10 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the next 9 stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 10 inches. Repeat the last step for the last 9 stitches. 

 

 


Plait the 3 sections and then place all stitches on the needle, continue to rib stitch all sections together for




2.5-3.5 inches for baby/toddler

4.5 inches for child

6 inches for teen/small adult

7 inches for adult, extra wide adult              

Cast off loosely leaving a long tail for sewing. Using tail sew the ends together. Sew in all ends.

You will need:

7mm needles

Chunky yarn

Tapestry needle

 

Cast on using 7mm needles and chunky yarn

              22 stitches for toddler 4inches wide

              26 stitches for child 5inches wide

              32 stitches for adult 7inches wide

              42-50 stitches for extra wide adult 10 inches wide 

Increase stitches to make wider, keep number of stitches an even amount.

Row 1 – slip 1, *k1, p1, repeat until end of row.

Repeat row 1 until reached desired length =

 35 inches for toddler 95grams 140m/156yards

 40 inches for child 107grams 147m/160yards

 60 inches for adult 420grams 588m/644yards

70 inches extra long scarf 560grams 760m/832yards


 Adding pockets to your scarf




You can do this by knitting extra length to your scarf

This is a great if you forget or have lost your gloves or you just need that extra warmth.

knit an extra

 6 inches for toddler

 8-10 inches for child

 18 inches for adult

 18 inches extra-long scarf

Fold over each end and sew along the seam to create a pocket.

For   

toddler fold 3-inch pocket each end

child fold 4-inch pocket each end

adult fold 9- inch pocket each end 

you can make the pockets bigger or smaller to suit your needs. 


Cast off and weave in the ends.

Cast on using 7mm needles and chunky yarn. (If you are a loose knitter, then reduce your needle size to a 6mm.)

              12 stitches for baby 19 grams

              14 stitches for toddler 25 grams

              16 stitches for child  34 grams

              20 stitches for adult 44grams 

              24 stitches for extra wide adult 54 grams 

 

           

Increase stitches to make wider, keep number of stitches an even amount. I knitted the above ear warmers using paintbox simply chunky yarn, you can use any chunky yarn you like.

Repeat this row until it measures

5.5-6.5 inches for baby

6.5 inches for toddler

7 inches for child

Next row:

Baby: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1. Place a stitch holder through the remaining 6 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the remaining stitches for 3 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the remaining stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 3 inches. See pictures below.

Toddler: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1. Place a stitch holder through the remaining 7 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the remaining stitches for 3.5 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the remaining stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 3.5 inches. See pictures below.

Child: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, Place a stitch holder through the remaining 8 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the remaining stitches for 4 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the remaining stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 4 inches. See pictures below.

Adult: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, Place a stitch holder through the remaining 10 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the remaining stitches for 4.5 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the remaining stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 4.5 inches. See pictures below.

Wide adult: k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, Place a stitch holder through the remaining 12 stitches on the left needle. Continue to rib stitch the remaining stitches for 4.5 inches. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Place these on a stitch holder and put needle through the remaining stitches, rib stitch these stitches for 4.5 inches. See pictures below.

  

 

Cross the 2 sections over, place the stitches on the stitch holder on the left needle.

      

Continue in rib stitch for 

5.5-6.5 inches for baby

6.5 inches for toddler

7 inches for child

7.5 inches for adult

Cast off loosely leaving a long tail for sewing. Using tail sew the ends together and sew in all ends.
