Flower stems and leaves

 

 


 

Abbreviations: 

kfb- knit in front and back of stitch. 

K2tog-knit 2 stitches together 

Cast on 6 stitches using double point 3mm needles (3 needles or 2 needles and a stitch marker pin) and green dk yarn

Knit the row, slide the stitches along to the other end of the needle pulling the yarn across the back and knit again. Continue to knit the stem this way creating a tube. 

Continue until you have knitted 30cm  Leaves:

knit 3 stitches and turn, the 3 remaining stitches leave on spare needle or put on a stitch marker.

In the first stitch kfb, p1, kfb (5 stitches)

Row 2 and alternatives: knit 

Row 3: k1, kfb, p1, kfb, k1 (7 stitches)

Row 5: k1, kfb, k1, p1, k1, kfb, k1 (9 stitches)

Row 7: k1, kfb, k2, p1, k2, kfb, k1 (11 stitches) 

Rows 9, 11 & 13: k5, p1, k5

Row 15: k1, k2tog, k2, p1, k2, k2tog, k1 (9 stitches) 

Row 17: k1, k2tog, k1, p1, k1, k2tog, k1 (7 stitches) 

Row 19: k1, k2tog, p1, k2tog, k1 (5 stitches) 

Row 21: k2tog, p1, k2tog (3 stitches)  

Row 22: knit 

cut a long tail and thread through the last 3 stitches.  Pull tight and weave through leaf. 

Join yarn onto the 3 remaining stitches and follow the leaf pattern again creating the second leaf. 

Insert green garden stick into the stem and sew up the bottom.

Row 1: K7, *Turn, K6, Turn, K5, Turn, K4, Turn, K3, Turn, K2, Turn, K12. Rep from * end of row, Turn, K6, Turn, K5, Turn, K4, Turn, K3, Turn, K2, Turn, K4.

Row 2: *K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1.

Rows 3, 4 & 5: Knit. 

Cast o­ff, leaving a long tail. Roll the flower up and sew onto stem. Optional, add additional leaves to bottom of flower.

Cast on 64 stitches using dk yarn and 4mm needles

Rows 1-12: *k2, p2 repeat from * until end of row

Row 13:  *k2tog, repeat from * until end of row

Row 14: *k2tog, k1 repeat from * until end of row

Row 15: *k2tog repeat from * until end of row

Cut off long tail and thread through remaining stitches, sewing up seam.

Center of flower

Cast on 18 stitches, cast off leaving a long tail. Wind in a tight spiral in center of flower and use long tail to sew onto flower.

 

Medium poppy

Cast on 56 stitches using dk yarn and 4mm needles

Rows 1-10: *k2, p2 repeat from * until end of row

Row 11:  *k2tog, repeat from * until end of row

Row 12: *k2tog repeat from * until end of row

Cut off long tail and thread through remaining stitches, sewing up seam.

Center of flower

Cast on 16 stitches, cast off leaving a long tail. Wind in a tight spiral in center of flower and use long tail to sew onto flower.
