Ventilator hat with a flap

 

Ventilator hat

 




Small Ventilator hat with flap knitting pattern (approx. 2.5 inches)

Using 3ply yarn and 2.75mm (uk no12) needles

K – knit

P - purl

Ktog – knit 2 stitches together

Yfwd – yarn forward

 

Knit flap first in garter stitch – every row knit

Cast on 11 sts and knit 2 rows

Row 3: k5 yfwd k2tog k4 – makes buttonhole

Rows 4 to13 knit

Row 14: cast off 2 sts at beg of row (9sts)

Row 15: cast off 2 sts at beg of row (7sts)

Leave remaining 7 sts on spare needle

 

Hat

Cast on 45 sts and work in k1 p1 rib for 4 rows

Row 1: * k3 yfwd k2tog repeat from * to end - this is the eyelet row

Row 2: P

Row 3: K19 cast off 7 sts knit 18

With wrong side facing, work on first 19 sts as follows:

Row 4: P to last 2 sts K

Row 5: K

Repeat rows 4 & 5 x 3

Row 12: P to last 2 sts K

Break off yarn – leave stitches on needle holder or spare needle

With wrong side facing rejoin yarn to the other remaining 19 sts

Row 4: K2, P to end

Row 5: K

Repeat rows 4 & 5 x 3

Row 12: K2, P to end

Row 13: K19sts, Knit the 7 sts from the spare needle, knit across the other 19 sts from the needle holder

Row14: P

Row 15: K

Row 16: P

Shape crown of hat

Row 1: K4 *k2tog, k3 repeat from * to last st K (37sts)

Row 2 and alternate rows P

Row 3: K3 *k2tog, k2 repeat from * to last 2 sts K2tog (28 sts)

Row 5: K2 *k2tog, k1 repeat from * to last 2 sts K2tog (19sts)

Row 7: K1 *k2tog repeat from * to end

Break off yarn and thread through stitches, draw tight and fasten.

Sew up the back seam and weave in all ends.

Sew button on to hat.

Make 2 x 9 inch chains for hat ties.

With wrong side facing rejoin yarn to the other remaining 17 sts

Row 4: K2, P to end

Row 5: K

Repeat rows 4 & 5 x 2

Row 10: K2, P to end

Row 11: K17sts, Knit the 7 sts from the spare needle, knit across the other 17sts from the needle holder

Row12: P

Row 13: K

Row 14: P

Row 7: K1 *k2tog repeat from * to end (9sts)

 

Break off yarn and thread through stitches, draw tight and fasten.

Sew up the back seam and weave in all ends.

Sew button on to hat.

Cast on

Preemie blanket - 120 stitches using 4mm needles and dk yarn

Baby blanket – 180 stitches using 4mm needles and dk yarn

Cot blanket – 260 stitches using 4mm needles and dk yarn

Rows 1-11: knit

Row 12: k10, p2, *k2, p2, repeat until last 12 stitches, k12

Row 13: knit

Row 14: k12, *p2, k2 repeat until last 12 stitches, p2, k10

Row 15: knit 

Repeat rows 12-15 until the blanket measures 21 inches for preemie blanket, 30inches for baby blanket and 40 inches for the cot blanket.

Knit 11 rows and cast off, Weave in the ends.
